Excellent, comfortable lodge style accommodation based right in the middle of one of the best stag hunting areas of the South Island.

  • US$6800 per person hunting 2 hunters per guide.

These hunts are genuine New Zealand style hunts, hunting as the locals do, on foot. Helicopters are only used to access known camping spots. Priority will be given to your first trophy choice and then progress on to further trophies of the same or different species.

All Hunt Packages include an experienced and knowledgeable local Hunting Guide, airport to airport transfers, all meals and accommodation prior to hunt and after the hunt, all meals, accommodation, tents and equipment while hunting, any access or concession fees, field preparation of trophies, and Govt taxes. Transport is by licensed Passenger Transport operators.

Backcountry Hut or Tent Camp? Throughout New Zealand there is a network of public huts maintained by the Dept of Conservation, or a number of local hunting/climbing organizations. These huts are available for the public to use on a first come first served basis. We utilize these huts for our Public land hunts. So long as there are spare beds available there may be other hunters, hikers, or climbers using the hut at the same time, but it is usual to have the hut to ourselves. Most of our Private land hunts have huts available to use. There is no electricity or running water at any of these huts.
For our high altitude hunts where we can expect the possibility of extreme weather conditions and have limited space available in the helicopter we use 2 and 3 man mountain tents, sleeping on climbing style air mattresses, and sleeping in extreme low temperature sleeping bags. The advantage of these hunts is that you are ‘right in country” and can expect to see game right from camp.

Prices DO NOT INCLUDE trophy fees for additional trophies taken, taxidermy charges or alcoholic beverages.

All prices are in US$, a 30% deposit will secure your booking.

Best months to hunt

Fishing is best Feb - March, season ends 30th April.
Red Stag, season starts early March. Prime time, the rut, mid April - mid May, and then through late May and in to June.
Tahr - come in to their winter coats as early as April, prime time is mid May until end of June, good hunting right through winter until Oct.
Chamois - good winter coats and the rut in May, so May and June are the best and then right through winter until Oct.

My recommendation for a genuine New Zealand hunt if you would like to keep your hunting time within a week would be a 6 day/5 night red stag hunt, with the opportunity to take extra trophies such as thar or chamois as time allows.

  • Red Stag, Lodge accommodation, Private Land: $7800, pp 2x1
  • Bull Tahr: $3500
  • Chamois or Fallow Buck: $3500

Total: US$14800 per person for a 6 day hunt for a red stag plus 2 other trophies, hunting 2 hunters per guide.

Or if you have the time, book both a helicopter accessed hunt on Public land for Tahr as the first choice of trophy, then change locations for a chamois hunt. After the chamois hunt is over, then back to the lodge for trophy stag

  • Bull thar, helicopter access, 5 days/4 nights: $4500 pp 2x1
  • Chamois buck, helicopter access, 5 days/4 nights: $4500
  • Red Stag, Lodge Accommodation, 4 days/3 nights: $6800

Total: US$15800 per person for a 14 day hunt, for tahr, chamois and a red stag, hunting 2 hunters per guide.
